The Chinese community in Nigeria has donated eight laptops to Nigerian teachers as part of activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abuja.
The gesture was announced by a member of the Chinese community, Zhao Ming, who described the donation as a practical expression of appreciation for teachers and their contribution to national development.
Zhao described teachers as the backbone of society, noting that their influence extends beyond the classroom to shaping knowledge, values and the next generation of citizens. He also shared a personal connection to the teaching profession, revealing that both his mother and grandfather were teachers.
According to him, the contribution of teachers to national development makes it important for individuals, communities and organisations to provide them with the tools and support they need to perform their responsibilities effectively.
The eight laptops were therefore presented to teachers as part of the community's contribution to this year's celebration.
Zhao also recalled previous contributions by members of the Chinese community to Nigerian education, including the provision of educational materials and participation in tree-planting activities.
He said the latest gesture was intended not only to celebrate teachers but also to contribute to education development in Nigeria and strengthen people-to-people relations between Nigeria and China.
