Shock has gripped the academic community of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, following the sudden death of its newly inaugurated Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carter Dike Umeoduagu.
The Professor of Microbiology was sworn in as the university’s substantive Vice-Chancellor on October 2, 2026, but just 24 hours later, on October 3, he reportedly took ill and passed away.
Prof. Umeoduagu, who was 44, was a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, where he represented Aguata 1 Constituency.
His death came barely a day after his inauguration, which had been marked by celebrations among his family, friends and associates.
The cause of his death was unknown and details had not been made public as at the time of filing the report.
