FOUR PORT HARCOURT GIRLS ARE NOW IN INDIA, REPRESENTING NIGERIA AND AFRICA AT GLOBAL TECH SUMMIT
Four young girls from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have arrived in Bengaluru, India, where they are representing Nigeria and Africa at the 2026 Technovation Girls World Summit.

Four young girls from Creators DigiTech School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have arrived in Bengaluru, India, where they are representing Nigeria and Africa at the 2026 Technovation Girls World Summit.
The girls, who make up Team Appsolute, qualified for the global finals of the Technovation Girls Global Challenge after developing AgeWell, an artificial intelligence-powered application designed to address some of the challenges faced by older people.
The team comprises 11-year-old Akachukwu Blessed Nwachukwu, 11-year-old Ifunanya Gabriella Okoye, 9-year-old Onyinyechi Daniella Okoye and 9-year-old Mmerichukwu Esther Nwachukwu.
Technovation officially listed AgeWell by Team Appsolute among the 2026 Beginner Division finalists. The team is one of five finalists in the division and the only African team among them. They are competing alongside teams from Canada, Spain, Mexico and Japan.
THEY BUILT AN AI SOLUTION FOR OLDER PEOPLE
At the centre of the girls' global journey is AgeWell, an AI-powered application created to support older people who may experience loneliness, safety concerns and loss of independence.
One of the key features of the application is an AI-powered fall detection system, designed to identify when an elderly person has fallen and facilitate access to assistance.
AgeWell also creates opportunities for older people to share their knowledge and skills and potentially earn income from their experience, helping them remain socially connected and economically active.
Technovation's official description of the application identifies it as an AI solution for elderly people, including fall detection and a feature that enables seniors to earn from their skills.
FROM PORT HARCOURT TO THE WORLD STAGE
The achievement is particularly significant because the girls are taking a project developed through their learning and technology journey in Port Harcourt to an international competition.
The girls were trained and mentored by Somkenechukwu Chukwudera Mamah, founder of Code Ambassadors Academy, with support from their parents.
The Director of Creators DigiTech School, Mrs. Chinenye Okoye, described the achievement as a reflection of the school's philosophy of prioritising practical skills and project-based learning.
According to her, the girls' consistency demonstrates what can happen when children are given the opportunity to learn, create solutions to real-world problems and develop practical STEM skills.
Creators DigiTech School is a new secondary school in Port Harcourt focused on combining academics with digital, creative and vocational skills.
A SECOND CONSECUTIVE GLOBAL FINAL FOR TEAM APPSOLUTE
This is not Team Appsolute's first appearance at the Technovation global finals.
In 2025, Akachukwu Blessed Nwachukwu and Ifunanya Gabriella Okoye were part of the Nigerian team that won the Technovation Girls Beginner Division Grand Prize with StayWoke, an AI-powered application designed to address drowsy and distracted driving.
For the 2026 competition, they returned with two new teammates, Onyinyechi Daniella Okoye and Mmerichukwu Esther Nwachukwu, and developed the new AgeWell solution.
The 2026 competition attracted more than 12,000 girls from over 130 countries, with more than 3,600 mobile application and AI projects submitted during the season.
For Team Appsolute, qualifying again means they have now reached the Technovation Girls global finals for the second consecutive year, this time with a new team configuration and a new AI solution.
SUPPORT FROM ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT
In a post announcing their arrival in Bengaluru, the team expressed gratitude for the support they received, specifically acknowledging Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Dr. Caleb Ajagba and the Abia State Government.
The team described the support as significant to their journey and opportunity to represent Nigeria and Africa on the global stage.
NOW, ALL EYES ARE ON INDIA
The 2026 Technovation Girls World Summit is being held in Bengaluru, India, where the global finalists will compete for the Beginner Division Global Prize. Technovation's official finalist announcement confirms Bengaluru as the venue for the final round of the 2026 competition.
For Port Harcourt, the story is particularly significant: four schoolgirls from the city have taken an idea developed through technology education and mentorship from their local environment to a global stage.
They are not simply travelling to India as spectators.
They are there to compete.
And this time, the world is watching Team Appsolute from Creators DigiTech School, Port Harcourt.
The big question now is:
Will the four girls bring the Technovation Global Prize home to Nigeria once again?
