The Federal Government has reaffirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies cannot replace the professional judgement, encouragement and human connection provided by teachers.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies cannot replace the professional judgement, encouragement and human connection provided by teachers.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, made the assertion on Monday in Abuja during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration and President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards.
Speaking on the theme, “Protecting and Advancing the Status of the Teaching Profession in a Rapidly Changing World,” Alausa said technology is transforming how knowledge is accessed and delivered, but teachers remain indispensable to quality education.
He said the government would prioritise teachers’ professional development and equip them to use technologies such as AI responsibly and confidently without compromising professional standards and values.
The minister also called for better teaching resources, fair recognition, good working conditions and continuous career development, stressing that investment in teachers must go beyond annual celebrations.
He further urged governments, school leaders, professional bodies, communities and parents to work together to strengthen teacher preparation, welfare and recognition.
